Wes Modder is the lead and founding pastor of Rock Church Chicago, which began in the fall of 2018 with the goal of reaching out to the local communities of the greater Chicago area with the message of the hope of Jesus Christ. His dynamic messages bring alive the uncompromising love and truth of God.
Born and raised in Clio, Michigan, Pastor Wes grew up with a rich heritage of two generations of Assemblies of God missionaries to India. It was while he was serving in the United States Marine Corps that he received a call to full-time ministry. Following his eight-year enlistment, he entered North Central University, where he received his undergraduate degree in Pastoral Studies in 1996. He continued his education at Bethel Theological Seminary, receiving a Master of Divinity in 2002, and completed his education at Fuller Theological Seminary, where he received a Doctorate of Ministry in 2014. Pastor Wes served as a youth pastor, college pastor, and assistant pastor for several churches in Minnesota before returning to active duty service as a US Navy Chaplain for 16 years. Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North (US Army, Ret.) and Freedom Alliance presented him with the Defender of Freedom Award, an award given to outstanding individuals who, in the face of adversity, exemplify faith, courage, and fidelity to the Constitution and the principles of freedom. Dr. Modder was also awarded the Defender of Truth Award by the Illinois Family Institute in 2016.
His wife, Beth, was born and raised in San Marino, California. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1991 with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Since leaving the hospitality industry, she has worked at home as a mom to four great children. She has been homeschooling for nine years, and now also serves as the Executive Assistant of Rock Church Chicago. She and Pastor Wes have been married for 25 years. Their children are James, Julia, Joy, and Jana.
